Over 30 years ago, Bob Stryer was a supplier to the furniture industry. It was then that he noticed a need for that particular industry to show its clients the goods that were available to them. A novice then to the sample business, Bob purchased one sewing machine, a cutting table and a small pinking machine and prepared for the onset of calls. There were none. So our illustrious soon-to-be sample maker jumped atop his Harley Davidson motorcycle and began to call on local furniture manufacturers. A lot of hard work and persistence paid off, and Bob Stryer slowly created a business that today is considered one of the best in the sample industry.
Today, Sample Makers Inc. is located in Jefferson City, Tennessee, just east of Knoxville. The 35-thousand square foot facility employs nearly 60 people and houses its own printing and art departments. What began as a sample business solely aimed at the furniture industry now provides sample programs for the automotive, marine, contract, decorative and industrial fabric industries as well.
Over the years, Sample Makers has continued to grow to accommodate the demands of its customers. It was only too apparent that its next step was to integrate its sample business onto the internet. The idea was to create an additional sales tool for its clients and that’s why Sample Makers established Samples On Line.
